[ Something normal. Something good. Something not the violent, murderous urges ping-ponging around her brain or the serial killer out to find her.

That's why Riley's looking forward to a movie with Angel. Just...two girls out, having a good time, seeing whatever's new and popular. Maybe they'll eat popcorn! That sounds normal! That sounds so normal! They normally meet at the theater. Riley shows up first, waiting inside. She doesn't think Aunamee goes to movies, so...that's safe, right?

She's going to wait for Angel, and not focus on anything bad. Or the fact that her feathers are all puffed up. ]

[ Ah, to be normal. A thing Angel is slowly giving up on, but this outing idea is giving pause to that. 2 friends going to the movies! As normal monster girls!

Angel arrives at the same time as Riley (two punctual people means the both of them arriving early) stepping out of the cab she took down from the castle and waving as she spots the other girl. ]

Sorry if I kept you waiting.

[ Thank god, she thinks, as if the presence of another monster will deter Aunamee, should he find her. That doesn't show on Riley's face. She merely waves back with a bright smile. ]

Oh, no! Not at all, I just got here.

[girlcorrupted]

[ If only Riley knew the lengths Angel would go to protect her, one of her few and cherished friends on the peninsula, maybe her fear would ease a little. But for now, Angel just senses the regular nervous energy that Riley gives off, energy that she usually matches with her own. ]

That's good, is there anything in particular you'd like to see?

[ She peers up at the marquee, scanning the titles of the movies playing that afternoon. ]

I don't recognize any of these, unfortunately.

[ With a shaky laugh, Riley winces. ]

I was hoping you would... None of these movies are...you know, familiar. At all. That one's supposed to be a drama?

[ A Streetcar Named Desire, Funny Face, and War and Peace seem to be the movies playing this week. ]

That would be the first one? Guessing by the names. The second I would hope, at least, is a comedy. And the third something historical? It's probably on the boring side.

Probably...? Oh, you know, I think I have...heard of some of these. They made a movie of that...?

[ The book was so boring... ]

The first one. We'll see the first one.

[ Angel pulls out her wallet from her purse, stepping up to the ticket vendor. When she opens it, from Riley's vantage she can probably see that Angel has a sizeable amount of solars on her person, even more evident as Angel takes out a hundred solar bill to buy the two tickets. ]

[ Riley's eyebrows raise as she catches sight of that. She's never hurt for money before this place, but it's also never really been something she thought about. Angel had insisted on the tickets, so she offered on getting the snacks, but maybe she shouldn't have worried.

When they're away from the ticket window: ] Thank you again for paying for the tickets! I could've gotten my own, you know.

[ Angel gives a not exactly triumphant, but pleased smile, handing Riley over her ticket. ]

It's not a problem. A better use for Jack's money then anything he could have spent it on.

[ It's the small rebellions these days that give Angel any sense of agency, especially since Jack blue screen of death'd his emotional core systems. No point in digging into him and making him feel terrible when he couldn't feel in the fist place. ]

There is more where that came from, so let's buy the largest popcorn and drinks to celebrate.

[ Ah, money spending rebellion. ...Riley tried that for a very, very brief period of time before realizing her parents didn't and probably would never care about what she spent their money on.

...Anyway! Not dwelling on that!! ]

At risk of broaching an uncomfortable topic... How'd he become so rich here? The rest of us are doing menial labor.

[ The theater lobby is a small one, given that there are only 3 showing rooms in the place. The walls are lined with posters of movies "coming soon" embedded lights in the fame illuminating the titles. In the center, there's a concession stand advertising popcorn, soft drinks, hotdogs and various candies which Angel makes a B line for. ]

I'm unsure how honestly he came by it all, but he gained a lucrative job at the Liewen Laboratories some time back. He has always managed to have lucks favor despite how little he deserves it.

[ Her lip curls a little at that last part. Jack, the least deserving man in the universe, has always been fortunes favored son. Proof to her that karma is a joke. ]

[ This is Riley's first movie in Ryslig, actually, so she takes a little time to gape at that, just three theaters. She's used to huge auditoriums, concessions stretching across the wall, megaplexes built into malls... This is going to take some getting used to. ]

Liewen? ...The guys who made the laptops? Oh. Jeez... [ That last bit, though... She swallows some of her actual admiration; it takes a lot to build yourself up in an entirely new place, but it doesn't sound like Angel's too pleased. ] At...least you can use it for whatever you want, right?

[ That makes two of them. For Angel, even though she'd only been on occasion as a kid most had 4d screens and smell-o-vision back home. This is... very rudimentary, but that's on track for all the tech in Ryslig. ]

That would be the plan.

[ And she steps up to the cashier with a kind of confidence she rarely exhibits outside her niche talents. ]

1 of everything please. Extra large sizes.

[ Riley holds back a bark of laughter. ]

Everything? Oh my god.

[girlcorrupted]

[ The attendant's eyebrows raise to his hairline, but he doesn't question her further when she pulls out the cash for it all. Only letting out a small huff and a barely audible "you're money lady" underneath his breath.

Angel beams. Listen, there's not a whole lot she feels she can do against Jack these days. Especially with how he's been lately. So even the smallest rebellion- one he probably would never even notice truth be told- feels uplifting. ]

I haven't done anything like this in years, we may as well make the most of it.

[ Just two monster girls, holding back laughter. Angel looks so happy, in a way she's never seen her... Riley decides it's not up to her to hold her back. ]

Okay... But when we've got too much, do not blame me, alright?

[girlcorrupted]

[ The attendant finishes scooping the last shovel full of popcorn into the extra large bucket, sliding it across the counter to join the boxes of various candies and soft drinks. He definitely looks skeptical but who can argue with the cash Angel has on her? ]

I promise, I promise.

...I also promise to not eat until I'm sick. Maybe.

[ Kid like, a rare side of Angel anyone sees. Like she's actually acting her age. ]

[ The fear of Aunamee's almost completely wiped away. This is so...strange. So nice. It reminds her of days at the movies with Cairo, something she's missed so deeply. ]
