Character Information: Wiki

Personality:
As one of the five Siren's born into existence at a time, Angel should have had a wealth of possibility and opportunity in front of her. With unique powers that let her merge with and control technology the world should have been her oyster. Unfortunately for her, she was born into the arms of Handsome Jack, a regular man who countered his inability to control her powers (which resulted in the accidental death of her mother) with an overabundance of control. Both in how he locked her away underground, denying her person-hood and in how he used her to further his own means.

Angel has spent the majority of her life locked in a heavily fortified room, hooked up to the canon's version of the internet (the echonet) and having her powers simultaneously enhanced and siphoned by technology her father has put into place. With her near endless access to the echonet, she is able to spy on and commune with unsuspecting travellers who may either be of use to Jack or threaten to get in his way. Because of her appearance and voice, Jack realized that Angel could play an effective lure as well as be his information sleuth and sabotour when needed. Thus, Guardian Angel was born, an elusive and helpful AI that would guide travelers and treasure seekers but who's motives and alliance were unknown. This is the role Angel would play for the rest of her life, and her only means of speaking to others outside of her father even if it was mostly scripted.

"I learned a lot from observing Pandora. Learned a lot about survival. About greed. But most of all? I learned no matter how badass they may be, anyone will happily lay down their life for a pretty girl, with big, blue eyes." -Handsome Jack

Since she was only around the age of 10 when put into captivity, and reeling from the recent trauma of her mother's death, Jack made easy work of bringing Angel on side rationalizing that it was in her best interest, that it was them against the world, that she could make up for her mistakes by doing good by him.

Angel is soft spoken, placating and polite to a fault. She keeps a very tight leash on her emotions, since she's been taught with harsh lessons through her life that she's dangerous and will hurt anything she comes to care for (and in turn that others, aside from Jack, will only hurt and use her.) But in many ways she's also her father's daughter. She's quick witted, can be snarky, and when the situation calls for it she will take drastic means to meet an end. She purses her goals relentlessly, even if that means obscuring truths, cutting off the oxygen in a wing of a space station to get her way, or sending people on seemingly impossible suicide quests for her idea of the greater good.

However, in her heart of hearts Angel wants to be a good person, to be worthy of the friendships she wants so desperately. Even though she's not against or put off by the violence of the world above her, she remains empathetic and desires to be helpful. When initially following Jack's orders, she did so under the assumption that his intentions were the best ones despite all the awful things she and his other victims were subjected to. That the things Jack did were done for the right reasons. But as she got older this became more and more a lie she told herself in order to survive Jack and survive the crushing guilt of her actions that would eat her alive if faced with a critical eye. It's a slow build of guilt, grief and hatred all of which she's been trying to blind herself to. To face it would be to acknowledge the awful truth that not only had Jack been using her, but that she'd been letting herself be used.

This all comes to a head in her final assignment from Jack, to persuade and trick a group of treasure hunters (known in universe as Vault Hunters) into sabotaging the protective shield surrounding a settlement on the planet Pandora. While guiding the hunters on this quest she formed an attachment to the group, her friendliness extending beyond the usual script, the act slipping here and there as she chatted to them through the echonet. Angel harbors immeasurable loneliness and has been deprived of any real kind of affection or love so having the relationship she had with the hunters began to become something she treasured, a dream of a different life. So when it came time to finally betray them Angel did so with deep reluctance, deactivating the shield and letting Jack bomb the town. This ends up being the final straw, as post this action Angel makes the difficult choice to go against her father and assist the hunters in killing him instead.

Behind the scenes Jack had been readying a super-weapon to raze the planet of Pandora so he can rebuilt the place in his image, and like everything else Angel had played an integral roll in assisting him. Her Siren powers were being used to access the weapon and without her Angel believed his ultimate plan would be foiled. But Angel knows people, and only knows one way to be effective. Outing herself as a human and a siren would only cause hesitation and complicate the situation. She believed the only way to help the hunters and herself was to continue lying and manipulating them and so continued her charade of playing a now rogue AI up until she was able to lead the hunters to where she was being held.

Although the plan is somewhat successful; the hunters reaching her and effectively cutting her off life support (an alien and volatile substance called Eridium, which enhances siren powers in small doses, but Jack had made her dependent on with overuse) her self sacrifice is a bitter one. Without the full picture the hunters are unable to make their own choices with regards to her life, and Jack is able to capture another siren, Lilith, who escorted the mission. Though Angel is dead before she can learn of all the fallout, continuing to believe her methods were right.

Initially Angel will be pretty shell shocked in regards to her new surroundings and circumstances. She's been a prisoner with barely any human (or otherwise) contact for over a decade, and will be setting foot outside the only room she's known for the past ten years. After that, to her own surprise, she'll adapt better than expected. There is plenty of trepidation, of course, and there will be a period of adjustment but those feelings will be counterbalanced by a great eagerness to finally experience a life beyond the one she's been confined to for so long. Her central drive is finding a sense of self, separate from who her father tried to mould her to be. She wishes most to be her own person, even though getting there will be a difficult road.

Despite being physically sealed away from the public for so long, she's spent so much time observing the lives of countless others that she shouldn't have much trouble integrating herself socially and understanding the basic ways to behave and read people in person.

Angel is logic brained, so as long as there are a clear set of social rules she's able to absorb and follow she'll act with at least the appearance of confidence. She'll have plenty of uncertainty and trauma to carry around, but in the past has shown that she can compartmentalize efficiently.
